Hi! Thanks for visiting our website and taking the time read a bit more about us.
My name is David McGregor. For seven years I worked on massive container ships, sailing all over the world. I was lucky enough to see some amazing things on my travels, including whales, dolphins, incredible sunsets and awe-inspiring storms. I visited over 30 countries and sailed across vast oceans.
As a deck officer, I would spend 8 hours a day on the bridge of the ship, looking out the windows. Navigating a ship, there are plenty of things you expect to see: other ships, buoys, sightings of land and occasional marine life. But there is one thing I didn’t expect to see so much of: plastic.
All over the world, I saw plastic litter in our oceans. Balloons, plastic packaging, fishing equipment. It didn’t matter in which part of the world I was sailing, plastic pollution was an ever-present sight.
Seeing all of this plastic made be curious about how it all got there, and whether it was having an adverse effect on the animals that live in the sea.
I set about researching the issue, and what I’ve learned has shocked me.
I created EradicatePlastic.com for two reasons. The first is to educate myself about the subject, and to try to make a concerted effort to use less plastic in my life. The second reason is to try to raise public awareness on the subject of plastic pollution.
I don’t want you to leave this website with the belief that there’s nothing that can be done, and all is lost. Public awareness of the scale of the problem has never been higher. There are amazing things happening all over the world to try to turn the tide of plastic pollution. There is hope!
I hope you enjoy browsing Eradicate Plastic, please get in touch if you have any ideas for the site.
